Canadian book editors at your service

Hi. My name is David Leonhardt. Welcome to THGM Writing Services. Our team of professional book editors is ready to take your book or screenplay to the next level. We’ll deliver your improved manuscript on time and on budget.

Our team includes Canadian editors and American editors. We’ll make sure that your book or screenplay is ready for your audience in Canada, in the USA or around the world.

Basic book editing includes:

  • spelling
  • grammar
  • punctuation
  • capitalization
  • clarity of language
  • consistency of language

If all you need is proofreading, we’ll do just the first four items above .

But we can do much more. We can check facts. We can restructure the manuscript or sections of it. We can enhance the dialogue. But these are not part of the basic editing package. Let us know what you need, and we’ll do it for you.

If you are not sure that your manuscript is ready for editing, we can also give it a high-level review. The outcome of the review is usually a couple pages of recommendations about:

  • the plot
  • the characters
  • descriptions of people and places
  • passages where specific improvements could be made
  • whatever else the editor notices

If necessary, we can rewrite the manuscript for you, from top to bottom.

I am absolutely grateful and satisfied with your services. And will recommend your editing company if ever needed. It’s a first for me knowing a bit about editing, there is a lot of work that goes into it. Words can change a person’s life, they can be very powerful. Debra made my story easier to read and she has always responded to any question or concern I had. Thank you.

Debra is exactly the person/editor/lady I was looking for. She is not re-writing my book, she’s making it better. I took 98%+ of her suggestions on my first fifty pages. I am very pleased and inspired. I LOVE WHAT SHE IS DOING WITH ALABAMA BLUE.

Five reasons to hire a professional editor

  • Hire a book editor to get publish-ready.
  • Hire a book editor for a different perspective.
  • Hire a book editor to catch details that you missed.
  • Hire a book editor for a top quality, finished manuscript.
  • Hire a book editor for accuracy and consistency throughout.

Why hire a book editor

Consistency is as important as accuracy. For instance, if you use US spellings, such as “center” and “honor” in your manuscript, you don’t want to suddenly insert Canadian spellings, such as “centre” or “honour”. And if you refer to a “car” in some places and an “automobile” in others, will want to choose one or the other. And let’s face it, if you want to sell your book south of the border, nobody will understand what “Newfie” or “poutine” mean.

Five reasons to hire our manuscript editors

  • Our manuscript editors are skilled – they correct what is wrong.
  • Our manuscript editors treat you like a king or queen (your choice).
  • Check our name: The Happy Guy Marketing. Our specialty is making customers like you happy.
  • Our manuscript editors are creative – they can find better ways to write what is not clear enough.
  • We care. We’ll let you know if we see anything outside the scope of the project that needs to be addressed.

Oh wow, I am crying. It is beautiful. And I am not just saying that because it is my book and all. It flows smoothly. I am pleased. I am confident I will land a contract with that. Now I feel confident. I didn’t feel that confidence before with my manuscript. Being a writer, I know that my manuscript didn’t have the smoothness I was aiming for. Thanks so much.

Five reasons to hire a freelance editing agency

  • All our editors have been vetted to protect you.
  • You get professional help. As a writer, you are not alone.
  • We are a team. We can sometimes assign an editor based on past experience.
  • We stand back so the editor can do her job…but we’ll step in if anything isn’t working for you.
  • If your editor needs to be replaced, we have back-up editors to carry on for you.

The chart below shows what services Canadians are asking from us, and as you can see, there are a lot of people just like you seeking editors to perfect their manuscripts.

Five reasons to hire a Canadian book editing agency

  • Like you, we are nice.
  • We know Canadian English.
  • We also know US and UK English.
  • Like you, we are hard-working and conscientious.
  • We have Canadian editors…but we also have American editors. Take your pick.

Bonus: we often also give a promotional push to clients who are comfortable with seeing their book on a ghostwriting agency’s website.

Five tips to work with our book editors

  1. Give us the correct word count.
  2. Pay for the edits.
  3. Let the editor know about exceptions you don’t want “corrected”.
  4. Receive the edits in “track changes”.
  5. Accept the edits you want; reject the edits you don’t.

Exceptions: Sometimes you might include slang or colloquialisms in your book on purpose. Let us know if there are purposeful “errors” that you do not want “corrected”. It is important for us to respect the tone you are trying to set.

I opened your edited file today. Although I have not had the strength to make the changes, they are PERFECT. You have done exactly what I had hoped you would do – you made my story better. I am eager to incorporate your suggestions and send it to my publisher. Thanks so much!

I feel right now as if my book is already published and you have written the first–and best–review it could have… All I can say is, thank you! for your professional editing and your wonderful words… Again, I couldn’t be more pleased with your work, and your reaction to the novel itself has given me a great deal of inspiration to continue on to publication.

Five things you should know about the cost of editing your book

We don’t compete on price. We compete on quality. Our pricing is carefully designed to ensure that you get a top-quality writer without paying celebrity prices.

  • Editing is a labor intensive job. It costs money.
  • The longer the manuscript, the more it costs.
  • Celebrity ghostwriters are good. Our editors are just as good, but you don’t pay extra for the name.
  • You can find cheaper editors on the Internet. If quality is not important to you, that’s fine.
  • Our price includes:
    • spelling
    • grammar
    • punctuation
    • capitalization
    • clarity of language
    • consistency of language

Make your book shine!

The most common reason people ask for editing help is because the quality of their writing is not as amazing as their story idea or information. You don’t want to look like an amateur.

Five top errors that will embarrass you

  • Bad grammar
  • Misspelled words
  • Inconsistent word use
  • Disconnects in your text
  • Long-winded sentences that are tough to read.

Nothing says “amateur” like misspellings, poor grammar or disconnects in your text. A publisher, literary agent or book reviewer will ignore your manuscript if the writing is under par, even if your content is phenomenal. Fortunately, it is easy to head off instant failure before it happens by hiring a professional manuscript editor (or even just a proof reader) for your book.

We can take your writing and make it better. We’ll give you a free quote and put you in direct contact with one of our top editors.
